Pounamu Maori Food/Kai Trail

You will spend two nights at Pounamu Lodge in our luxury Koru or Manu suite. Upon your arrival you will be shown to your room to freshen up and relax before joining us for pre dinner drinks and your evening meal accompanied by New Zealand wine and beer.

The next morning will bring a hearty breakfast which will stand you in good stead for your trip to Whakarewarewa Village for your personally guided tour, learning programme, haka and poi concert and steamed hangi lunch in the Village private dining room.

Back to the Lodge and a short rest before heading off into the bush to learn about and pick the different herbs and foods used by local Maori. Learn about the culinary and medicinal properties of the native bush and herbs you will see that have been part of Maori tribal life for centuries.

After your trek you will return to the Lodge where a delicious evening meal of meat, fish and vegetables infused with the herbs gathered during the bush walk is prepared and cooked for your pleasure. This will be served in the dining room or on our spacious deck so you can take full advantage of the warm summer evenings.

This experience is accompanied by a private cultural performance exclusively for Pounamu Lodge guests performed by the descendents of Tuhourangi just as their forefathers did over a hundred years ago.

As the conversation and evening draws to a close our chef and your hosts will close with a few words and a final song before you retire to your suite for a good night's sleep.
