It is stunning to just visit it is an unforgettable experience to spend some time. Pounamu Lodge sits gently on the land while being totally surrounded by virgin native forest in a setting almost directly above Lake Tarawera’s edge. The lodge and your private suite enjoys totally uninterrupted views of the lake and the sacred Mount Tarawera. Wake up to the call of native birds or the warmth of sun gently bathing your room.

The Lodge accommodates a maximum of 4 guests in 2 designer suites located on a separate level of the lodge to ensure your peace and total privacy. The Koru suite features a King size bed with Manu suite providing king size or twin share. Both have ensuites, reading areas and service bay for that coffee, snack or quiet drink.

Karen and David love to share their home with their manuhiri – guests. They are able to weave a magical experience for you by bringing their whanau – family together to provide an environment rich in culture through music, conversation, art and food. You will be enthralled by the power of the stories, the sweet melodies of the music and traditions of our people.

We provide all the extras you would expect from a luxury lodge and if requested, you can finish your day with a memorable gourmet dinner infused with kai Maori complimented with fine New Zealand wines.

We're also family friendly and welcome children of all ages.
